The Liberation Route lets you experience what happened in 1944 and 1945 in the Netherlands and the German border region. At more than 20 locations in Limburg, there are Maas boulders with a Liberation Route audio spot.

At each Liberation Route audio spot, you can listen to a radio play about the impressive experiences of one or more people during the last years of the war. In Geijsteren, you can listen to the story of how Geijsteren Castle was heavily shelled by British troops for days.

Stand firm at all cost

In the last week of November 1944, Geijsteren Castle was heavily shelled for days by British troops. The 60 German Fallschirmjäger defend the castle to the hilt. Baron De Weichs de Wenne, with the help of an art-loving Austrian soldier, tries to save what can be saved.
