On the night of 16-17 June 1943, a heavily loaded Lancaster bomber takes off from Bottesford to carry out a bombing raid on Cologne. The aircraft is shot at en route by a German night fighter and explodes. The debris comes down near Niederkrüchten and a few houses on Lamertzweg collapse. There are civilian casualties including children. Another drama follows the crash....
