Refugee

On 27 September 1944, expecting an Allied attack, the Germans give the order that the population from Overloon and the villages east of it must be evacuated immediately. A stream of refugees starts to flow. This village of Holthees then has 420 inhabitants. It gives some 1,500 refugees hospitable shelter. But on 30 September, Holthees is also bombed. Residents and refugees are forced to move on. Among them is Jan Henckens.
