Walk for miles in the middle of Limburg
Midden-Limburg is ideal for walking. Unlike the south of the province, the flat, varied landscape is suitable for everybody. The beautiful scenery and many nature reserves invite to relax and enjoy.
The National Parks, the "Meinweg" in Roerdalen and the "Groote Peel" in Ospel, offer an unique range of flora and fauna. Many rare plants and animals inhabit the parks. During a walk over the "Meinweg", you can take many different routes across the border and visit our German neighbors. The areas around Beesel and Reuver are the link between the beautiful international nature of the Netherlands and Germany.
The nature parks around Weert are also part of an international park landscape. In "grenspark Kempen-Broek" you can walk from Limburg to Belgium.
The beautiful Leudal is a nature reserve of some 900 hectares of which a large part(about 500 ha) and is managed by the Forestry Reserve. You can make endless walks through the woods. This area is a paradise for nature lovers.
In the municipality of Maasgouw, historical towns like Stevensweert and Thorn are surrounded by nature loved by walkers. At the edge of the Meuse Valley, you can find the Beegderheide. This is an area with a variety of enclosed forests and heathlands. Also there are various visitor centers , where your can get information about the area and route options.

City walks and guided tours in Roermond, Weert, Thorn, Roerdalen and Stevensweert
Culture Lovers can indulge themselves during one of the city walks . It is possible to make a city walk in Weert, Roermond, Thorn, as well as in Stevensweert. In the various VVV tourist information shops, different routes are available, individual or guided.
Nordic Walking and skiking
In the border area between the Netherlands and Germany, you can find several Nordic Walking trails. There are also various routes available for the increasingly more popular skike. For more information and maps you can visit one of the VVV shops in Midden-Limburg.
Holiday walks with the VVV in Midden-Limburg
During the holidays and summer months in July and August several extra walks take place in Roermond, Thorn, Roerdalen and Stevensweert. All tours are accompanied by a certified tourist guide. The tourist guides are the ambassadors of their city or village and get the visitor acquainted with the history and contemporary life of Roermond, Stevensweert, Thorn or roerdalen. Registration for a guided tour is not required. The walks always take place, regardless of the number of participants.

Knopen lopen in Roerdalen
In the municipality of roerdalen you can go "knopen lopen". Along numbered route poles you can walk a route of your choice. Simply follow the numbers on the poles and decide where you want to go. Route information maps of all Poles are available at the various Tourist Office Shops (VVV's) in the middle of Limburg.
Pieterpad
The Pieterpad is a long distances trail. It is located between Pieterburen in the north and the St. Pietersberg in the South of the Netherlands. This 481 km long distance trail is the most popular trail since its opening in 1983. A part of the Pieterpad runs through the middle of Limburg. This beautiful part of the route leads you through the wooded areas of the Swalmdal and de Meinweg. Booklets with more information about the 'Pieterpad' are available at our Toutist Office Shops (VVV)in the middle of Limburg.
Ferries for cyclists, pedestrians and cars
At various places all kinds of ferries ensure that walks can be continued.
