Enjoy Nature

The municipality of Leudal consists of  Baexem, Buggenem, Ell, Grathem. Haelen, Haler, Heibloem, Heythuysen, Horn, Hunsel, Ittervoort, Kelpen-Oler, Neeritter, Nunhem Neer and Roggel. There are plenty of cultural, recreational and sports activities.

Nature

Haelen is a paradise for nature lovers. The Leudal Museum is located in Centre "Leudal" and has an exhibition that shows the nature, culture and history of Leudal. In the middle of the Leudal there are an 18th century watermill, The Leumolen, and some typical old farms. The villages of Nunhem and Heibloem are surrounded by forests trough which you can walk and cycle here endlessly. The Keversbroek is a piece of natural beauty in Kelpen-Oler. Besides farms you can find ‘t Kaufven in Oler, a garden with water features, a bakery and an old barn which boasts the possibility to bake bread.

Castles and mills

Two castles and a working water mill adorn the old center of Grathem. In Haelen you can find the beautiful Castle Aldenghoor. There’s a park around the castle Horn, where you can picnic and relax after a walk or bike ride. Furthermore, in Horn you can find the windmills "De Hoop"(Hope) and "De Welvaart"(Prosperity) which is the only sixteen sail mill in the Netherlands. Adjacent to the park "Axaten" in Baexem you can find a standard mill, a former monastery and a castle with a herb garden.

Activities and Sports

If you love golf then you will find a 9-hole golf course just outside Hunsel and if you like fishing there is a trout pond located in Neeritter.

Leudal: municipality of many villages

In leudal, some remainders of the original ramparts of Neeritter are still visible. Around the Franconian square you'll find historic homes and farm houses, including the 15th century guest house.In Buggenum there are the beautiful buildings along the Dorpstraat with the St. Aldegundiskerk. Neer has hidden tourist gems, like a brewery, a monastery and the Imperial Keizerbosch and Friedesse Watermill. A visit to the historic town center is also a must. Roggel is known as an active and attractive village, where there’s always something to experience. At least four times a year a big fair is organised. In the center of  Heythuysen, besides the attractions such as the St. Anthonius mill and the Monastery St. Elizabeth you can enjoy plenty of shopping.

Accommodations from Bed & Breakfast to castle.

The accommodation options range from (mini) camping sites and bed and breakfasts, to tastefully decorated family hotels. It is even possible to stay the night in a real medieval castle. Some campervan pitches are available near the marina.

 

Watersports

Leudal is attractive for watersports lovers. In Neer, a very charming marina is being built. In the season passers can moor for several days and make day trips by bike.
